School Curriculum

Stepping Stones Preschool has chosen HighScope curriculum. HighScope is a researched based and child focused curriculum.  It uses a carefully designed process called "active participatory learning" to achieve powerful, positive outcomes. HighScope curriculum helps children excel in language and cognitive learning but also promotes independence, curiosity, decision-making, cooperation, persistence, creativity and problem solving.

Get Social With Us

A Curriculum That Reflects Our Core Values

We use the HighScope and Star Fall curriculums.  They meet state licensing requirements and offer a high degree of flexibility. In keeping with our philosophy of an all-inclusive approach to early childhood education, curriculum components are age-specific and can be adjusted to meet the needs of children at varying stages of development.

HighScope Curriculum reflects this comprehensive and highly individualized approach. Kids are divided into different groups during one part of the day in an effort to provide them with developmentally-appropriate activities. At other times, children of all ages play together in order to learn from one another – the younger ones as learners, the older students as role models.

In addition to the basic skills required for a lifetime of learning, Stepping Stones Preschool imparts values such as creativity, self-reliance, compassion, and respect for diversity. In order to achieve this goal, it is essential for us to work closely with you, the parents, to provide the best possible situation for your children.
Our preschool program (ages 3-5) includes:

  • Development of fine and gross motor skills
  • Literacy training
  • Math development
  • Fostering of social skills
  • Physical activities
  • Science awareness

Because of the developmental differences between preschool and pre-kindergarten classes, our curriculum is divided into two parts. The three year old preschool curriculum is designed to include arts and crafts which help develop fine motor skills, time for independent play and socialization, indoor play groups, sensory/cognitive exercises, and more.  Our Multi-age and pre-kindergarten curriculum is structured for kids aged four to five and covers areas such as literacy, math, science, art, and music.

Preschool Class: 3 year olds

Our Preschool Program emphasizes fine and gross motor skills, socialization, self-discovery, and science. It eases children into the wonderful world of learning through play and other activities.

Two days per week (Tuesday and Thursday or Monday and Wednesday) or three days per week Monday, Wednesday,

and Friday.

Multi-age Class

Our Multi-Age class matches a student's age and developmental level while also providing a flexible schedule for families. It teaches beginning K-readiness skills in small groups, enhances socialization, and fosters science center discovery.

Three to five days per week.

Pre-K Class: 4 and 5 year-olds

Pre-k classes are designed for a child's final step before kindergarten.  Special focus is placed on developing skills for emergent readers.  This class offers small group instruction, a higher level of science center discovery, and continuing socialization.

Five days per week.

All-Day Preschool

Our all-day class option, which provides care for your children during morning classes as well as afternoon time. Afternoon time will engage students of any age and will be structured similarly to our morning classes. Students will bring a packed lunch, enjoy stories and crafts, and participate in "discovery activities." Nap time is provided, if necessary.  Call 717-872-2005 or  email for more information.

Morning Kindergarten Care

Ask us about our special morning care program for afternoon Kindergarten children.  As a unique benefit to working parents, our Pre-K Plus program is designed to provide instructional care for students before they attend their regular afternoon Kindergarten class.  Our staff supervises their (packed) lunch and also escorts Eshelman Elementary School students to their facility.
